Runners compete at Earlybird Invitational
Cross country runners from Gonzales, Greenfield, and King City joined over 70 teams and 2000 plus runners at the Earlybird Invitational Cross Country Meet.

The King City boys won 10 events and the girls team won eight events in victories over South County opponents at Thursdayās Daines-Stireman Track and Field Meet at War Memorial Stadium.
Mustangs 0-3 in league
The King City Mustang boys basketball team will be out to get on the win column after starting the Mission Trail Athletic League season with losses to Carmel, Soledad and Pacific Grove. The Mustangs lost MTAL games last week on the road to the Aztecs and at home to the Breakers.
Lady Mustangs beat rival Spartans, 53-48
Trailing 14-12 on the road to Gonzales inspired the King City Lady Mustangs to toughen up defensively and keep the Spartans scoreless in the second quarter. Gonzales fell behind at the half, but kept the game close though King City prevailed, 53-48.
King City hosts Cluster Meet
South County high school track and field teams took part in the Mission Trail Athletic League Cluster Meet on Thursday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium in King City.
Bruins, Mustangs split wins
Home was a tough place to play for the Greenfield Bruins and King City Mustang baseball teams in their two-game Mission Trail Athletic League series. The Bruins won 5-4 at King City in the first game of the series and the Mustangs responded with a 8-1 win

Three local high school football teams will be in action on Friday at the start of the non-league schedule and one high school will be off to observe a bye week.
Hartnellās summer sports camps for youth continue
SALINAS ā Hartnell Athletics program has opened online registration for a series of weekly summer youth sports camps, running through Aug. 5.
Hartnell coaches lead the camps, with assistance from student-athletes, and all proceeds go to support intercollegiate teams at the college.
