Community invited to decorate bike wheels in celebration of Amgen Tourās arrival
Sol Treasures and Salinas Valley Fair are hosting a bicycle wheel decorating contest for the South County community in celebration of next monthās arrival of the Amgen Tour of California in King City.
Strengthening communities
The Southern Monterey County Foundation (SMCF), an affiliate fund of the Community Foundation for Monterey County, has granted $20,000 to nonprofit organizations providing a variety of community-based services aimed at improving the quality of life for South County residents.

The new location for Yesyās Restaurant opened on King Cityās Broadway Circle last Friday. A staff of 15 has been hired and trained, and resurfacing of the parking lot finished Monday.
Stampede down Broadway
King City High School students, parents, coaches and others rallied down Broadway Street for the annual Homecoming Parade last Friday, Sept. 28, before the Mustangsā football game against St. Francis High School of Watsonville.
King City Community Power launches service Monday
King City Community Power, a local electric energy service, is set to launch next week with the City of King now becoming the default electric power provider for the community in partnership with Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), which will continue to transmit and bill for the power.

Labor Day weekend is coming and so are nearly 600 barrel racers from across the Western States, including a few from South County, who will be making their way to King City for the 2018 West Coast Barrel Racing Association (WCBRA) Finals presented by Nutrena Feeds.
Living the suit life
When Laina Babb learned to sew at age 6, she never imagined it would lead her to the opera. She has made her love of sewing into a career, first training and then apprenticing as a tailor. Now, as LA Operaās head tailor, Babb manages a team of up to six tailors (depending on the show). Together they craft all the menās suits used in the companyās productions in downtown Los Angeles.
