KING CITY — A 42-year-old King City man was killed in a shooting early Sunday, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after midnight on Aug. 23, officers from the King City Police Department and deputies from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Hartnell College’s King City Education Center.
Responding law enforcement personnel found the victim — later identified as Omar Tellitud Chavez — suffering from an apparent gunshot wound near the satellite campus at North Second and Lynn streets. Despite emergency response efforts, Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office is leading the homicide investigation. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed or heard anything related to the incident to come forward.
Investigators are also asking residents and businesses in the area to check surveillance cameras, doorbell cameras and other video systems for footage that may be related to the investigation.
