ELECTION SIGNATURES

SALINAS — Monday, Jan. 3, marked the opening of the Signatures In-Lieu of Filing Fees period for the June 7 Statewide Direct Primary Election for federal, state and countywide offices. The Signatures In-Lieu of Filing Fees period for the Monterey County Board of Supervisors District 2 and District 3 offices will open Tuesday, Jan. 11. The period is set to close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9. DIAMOND JUBILEE

GREENFIELD — City of Greenfield will be celebrating its 75th anniversary, also known as a diamond jubilee, on Friday, Jan. 7, at 3 p.m. The free community event will take place at the Greenfield Civic Center, 599 El Camino Real, and includes a short formal ceremony, the burying of a time capsule (to be opened during the city’s centennial anniversary in 25 years), festive music and birthday cake. Regional and local elected officials, along with city staff, will be present for the celebration.


HERITAGE SCHOLARSHIP

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation has announced its 2022 scholarship program, which seeks to motivate well-rounded academic achievers in pursuit of their careers and life goals in the areas of agriculture. This year, the Foundation has expanded the criteria to include San Benito and Santa Cruz county exhibitors as well as the “Heritage Animal,” which doesn’t need to be a hog. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of scholarship, personal commitment and goals established for his or her field, leadership potential and civic accomplishments. At least one scholarship will be awarded to Monterey County 4-H or FFA members in good standing.
