UPDATE (Sept. 17):

MONTEREY COUNTY — The County of Monterey has postponed the reopening of the Government Center to allow contractors and environmental consultants to complete final environmental and safety checks following plumbing and fire suppression system maintenance.

In an update Wednesday evening, the County said the building at 168 W. Alisal St. in Salinas is tentatively scheduled to reopen in early to midweek during the week of Sept. 21.

Contractors identified a routine maintenance issue with the building’s fire sprinkler system during the final stages of restoration. The system requires repairs and testing before the building can reopen, according to the County.

Essential government services will continue through temporary satellite locations and remote systems while the closure remains in effect.

“We want to share our sincere appreciation for the flexibility of our team members and the continued patience of our residents,” County administration said. “Our focus is on delivering a safe, refreshed and entirely operational workspace. Taking these few extra days guarantees that every system is working perfectly when we reopen our doors early to mid-next week.”
