SENIOR SERVICES
MONTEREY COUNTY — For more than 35 years, the attorneys and advocates for Legal Services for Seniors (LSS) have provided free legal assistance and representation for those 60 years or older across Monterey County. In the 2022 calendar year, the organization helped 1,714 clients, nearly 100 more than the year before, while devoting a total of 6,517 hours in services. Among those clients, 467 were older than 75, and came from all corners of the county. Housing issues topped the list of services, with LSS seeing 582 clients in 2022. Assistance with wills and estates came next with 423 clients, followed by consumer/finance (186), income maintenance (131), advanced health care directives (87), elder abuse (75), family (74), individual rights (43), health (34) and other (79). STUDENT LEADERS
MONTEREY COUNTY — The deadline for Monterey County high school students to apply for Bank of America’s prestigious Student Leaders paid summer internship program is this Friday. Applications must be submitted by Jan. 13 for this program for community-minded high school juniors and seniors. Two local Student Leaders will participate in an eight-week paid internship with the local Boys and Girls Clubs of Monterey County, a local nonprofit organization in Seaside. This year, for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic began, the program will again include a week-long leadership summit in Washington, D.C. To apply, visit bit.ly/3XgFnk3.
PANTHER NIGHT
KING CITY — Hartnell College is hosting Panther Night for spring registration at the King City Education Center on Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The college is offering both in-person and hybrid (partially online) classes for Spring 2023, which starts Jan. 23, at the facility located at 117 N.
