KING CITY — Mee Memorial Healthcare System, based in King City, has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the “100 Critical Access Hospitals to Know” for 2026.

This national list acknowledges hospitals that are vital to American healthcare, noted for clinical excellence, innovation and impact in rural communities.

In its 2026 announcement, Becker’s emphasized the essential nature of these facilities, stating, “Critical access hospitals occupy a singular place in the American healthcare system. With a mandate to provide around-the-clock emergency care, these institutions do far more with far less than almost any other type of healthcare organization.”

The recognition reflects Mee Memorial’s ongoing commitment to South Monterey County. Becker’s further noted that the hospitals featured on this year’s list are “actively expanding access to specialty care, reducing the burden of patient travel and driving meaningful improvements in the health of their communities.”

“We are honored to receive this recognition from Becker’s,” said Rena Salamacha, CEO of Mee Memorial Healthcare System. “Our team works hard every day to ensure patients in our rural communities have access to the care they need close to home. This acknowledgment speaks to the commitment of our employees, providers, and leadership team to the people we serve.”

Becker’s Hospital Review is the go-to source for healthcare decision-makers and one of the fastest-growing media platforms in the industry. Its “100 Critical Access Hospitals to Know” list is curated through editorial research and a review of national rankings to identify hospitals that are vital to their local ecosystems.

Mee Memorial continues to serve as the primary healthcare anchor for the southern Monterey County region, recognized for maintaining high standards of care while addressing rural health equity. For more information about MMHS and its services, visit meememorial.com.
