
SALINAS VALLEY — The athletic programs at King City and Gonzales high schools announced their 2025-26 Athletes of the Year at recent scholarship events.
The athletes were chosen by varsity head coaches on the school sites.
At King City High School, Armando Villasenor was chosen as the boys Athlete of the Year and Eva Vicencio was selected as the girls Athlete of the Year.
Villasenor was a three-sport athlete playing varsity football, wrestling and track and field. In football, he was a first-team All-League player on the offensive and defensive lines for the Mission South Division of the Pacific Coast Athletic League. The Mustangs were champions of the division.
As a wrestler, Villasenor was second in the 165-pound weight class of the Mission Division. The Mustangs won the division with a 5-0 record and Villansenor finished with 17 wins and 11 losses overall.
In track and field, Villasenor won the discus in the Gabilan Championships with a mark of 140-8.
Vicencio was a three-sport athlete in flag football, soccer and track and field. In flag football, she led the Lady Mustangs with 38 sacks.
As a member of the track and field team, Vicencio ran the 200 meters, 400 meters and a leg of the 4×100 relay team at the Gabilan Championships.

At Gonzales High School, Jorge Uribe was named the boys Athlete of the Year and Mariana Camarena was chosen as the girls Athlete of the Year.
Uribe was a receiver and defensive back on the Spartan football team, was the Most Valuable Player on the soccer team and the leading scorer on the boys basketball team.
In football, Uribe led Gonzales receivers with 29 receptions and scored eight touchdowns, in addition to scoring two touchdowns at running back. He led the team with 68 scoring points, and had two interceptions.
As a soccer player, Uribe led Gonzales with 28 goals and had five assists and was the Most Valuable Player of the Mission Division. He led the Spartan basketball team with a 15.6 scoring average.
Camarena played defensive specialist on the volleyball team, midfield for the soccer team and guard on the girls basketball team. The Spartans won the Cypress Division soccer title this season for the second straight year.
As a softball player, Camarena led the team with seven multi-hit games and finished with 26 total hits.
