KING CITY — While at the Salinas Valley Fair on May 19 at about 7:30 p.m., a Monterey County Sheriff’s Office deputy assigned to the Mounted Horse Patrol observed a physical fight outside the fairgrounds in King City between what appeared to be teenage males.

The Mounted Unit Deputy responded to the fight with other law enforcement and security personnel, at which time the subjects involved in the fight fled from the area running on foot.

From the elevated position on horseback, the deputy was able to identify one of the involved subjects and continually observe him as he ran across Division Street.

While on his horse “Blondie,” the deputy pursued the male subject from the area of the fight across Division Street and then northbound on Seventh Street. The subject briefly stopped after his pathway was blocked by the deputy but then began to flee again on foot.

The deputy and “Blondie” once again caught up to the subject and blocked his escape.

The male — later identified as Salvador Mosqueda Jr., 19, of Greenfield — was then detained in the 400 block of Seventh Street. He was arrested for resisting or delaying a peace officer and then taken to the Monterey County Jail for booking.

All other involved parties in the physical fight refused to cooperate with law enforcement, deputies said.
