MBEP hosts AI summit on region’s future
CENTRAL COAST — Monterey Bay Economic Partnership will host “AI & the Future of Our Region,” a Sept. 10 summit exploring how artificial intelligence is affecting the regional economy, communities and future of work.
The event will bring together leaders from business, government, education, nonprofits and the technology sector at CSU Monterey Bay University Center from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The summit will feature AI leaders, policymakers, researchers and innovators, including speakers from OpenAI, Loti AI, the Hoover Institution and Stanford Law. Keynote conversations and expert panels will examine AI’s implications for the future of work, public policy, economic competitiveness and organizations across the Monterey Bay region.
“The topic of artificial intelligence has come up repeatedly at every MBEP regional gathering. Local leaders from all sectors want to know how AI will impact our region, to better grasp its potential and the pitfalls,” said MBEP President and CEO Tahra Goraya. “For many, artificial intelligence is the big unknown, but the reality is that AI is already here and it’s essential that we prepare to meet the changes.”

Artists, makers sought for Fall Into Art tour
KING CITY — Artists, makers and creators are invited to apply as vendors for Fall Into Art, a two-day arts celebration scheduled for Sept. 12-13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sol Treasures in King City.
The event will celebrate local creativity and community, with vendors offering art and handmade goods, creative experiences, workshops and other unique offerings for visitors. Fall Into Art is part of the Open Studios Art Tour, a program of the Arts Council for Monterey County.

VNA receives $25K grant to support clinical workforce
MONTEREY COUNTY — Central Coast VNA & Hospice has received a $25,000 grant from the Community Foundation for Monterey County to strengthen its clinical workforce through advanced training, hands-on education and professional development.
The grant, provided through the Lauralie and J. Irvine Fund and the Rapa Trust Fund, will support evidence-based training, annual clinical skills education in partnership with Hartnell College, and continued support for a clinical educator who mentors nurses and therapists providing care in patients’ homes.
VNA clinicians often work independently while making critical health care decisions in home settings. The organization said the funding will help ensure staff have the training and resources needed to provide safe, high-quality care to more than 4,000 Monterey County residents each year.
The grant comes as Central Coast VNA & Hospice celebrates 75 years of serving the community. The organization provides skilled home-based care throughout Monterey County.
