GILROY — Track and field athletes from all four South County high schools will be running, throwing, and jumping on Saturday at the Central Coast Section Track and Field Semifinals at Gilroy High School. Athletes will be trying to improve their marks and qualify for the CCS Championships that will take place at Gilroy on Friday, May 26.

Mission Trail Athletic League boys champion King City will be sending the boys 4 x 100 relay team; distance ace Roman Munoz in the 800 and 1600; Christian Olmos in the 100; Jesus Avalos in the 3200; Xavier Salone in the 400; Jhames Bautista in the 300 hurdles; and Isidro Cabrera in the discus.

Munoz, Olmos and Cabrera were individual league champions in their events.

Gonzales High will be represented at CCS by the boys 4 x 400 relay team; the girls 4 x 100 relay team; Pablo Villasenor in the shot put and discus; Jasmin Yadao in the shot put and discus; Damian Acosta in the 100 and 200; and Matthew Cortez in the triple jump.

Soledad High School will be sending the following athletes to the semifinals: Daniel Contawe in the shot put; Ulises Camarena in the 300 hurdles; Belen Flores in the 300 hurdles; and the boys 4 x 100 relay team.

Rodrigo Garcia of Greenfield High will represent his school in the 3200.

The field events will begin at 10 am on Saturday with the running events scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

The top eight competitors will advance to the CCS championships.

The top three placers or athletes that reach a qualifying mark will qualify for the California Interscholastic Federation State Meet on the weekend of June 2 and 3 at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
