KING CITY — Broadway Street in downtown King City welcomed walkers, cyclists and families Sunday for the fourth annual King City Ciclovía, a community event promoting healthy living and overall well-being.
The Oct. 11 event, hosted by the City of King and the Monterey County Health Department, closed Broadway Street from First Street to San Lorenzo Avenue to vehicle traffic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., creating space for pedestrians, cyclists, runners and other forms of nonmotorized transportation.
Activities included a fun run and community walk, live street art, folklórico and cultural dance performances, bicycle raffle prizes and information on community and social services.
More than 40 local agencies participated, offering information about available services, giveaway items and assistance. Family activities included a bike rodeo, children’s games, inflatable obstacle courses, bicycle repairs and a history walking tour.
The entertainment lineup featured Zumba and Baile Folklórico Costa de California, rock band Syndikate and Nuestras Raíces Ballet Folklórico. Raffle prizes were drawn throughout the afternoon.
The first 500 families also received free food bags provided by the Food Bank for Monterey County.
“The City would like to express its appreciation to our generous sponsors who have made this event possible, including the Transportation Agency for Monterey County, Mee Memorial Healthcare System, KCCP, Pilot Energy, Gil Farms, Rio Farms, Natividad Medical Foundation, King City Veterinary Clinic and A&G Pumping,” organizers said.
