“We played at Greenfield and were down by nine at the half,” said Lady Mustang head coach Frank Padilla. “We won by 17 because we had a big second half and took the lead behind Delaney Carroll. She scored all 16 of her points in the second half.”
In the final regular season game the Lady Mustangs trailed 7-6 at the end of the first quarter to Stevenson at Pebble Beach, then blasted the Pirates in their own gym, outscoring the host team, 54-28 in the final three quarters. Carroll put on a scoring and rebounding show with 17 points and 11 rebounds with one 3-point basket, one assists, and three steals.
Richardson scored 11 points and added three rebounds and six assists and Lucy Cabrera scored 11 points with three 3-point baskets, three rebounds and two steals. Flores had a game-high 21 rebounds and scored seven points and finished with three assists. Camacho contribute with five points.
“On Friday it was a showdown for sole possession of second place with Stevenson,” said Coach Padilla. “Our girls were up for the challenge as they outscored them 36-17 in the second half. Ambreece Gaskins only had 12 points as Mikayla Davis, Lucy Cabrera, and Nancy Andrade did an awesome job on her. They frustrated her all night to get her out of her rhythm. Lucy Cabrera had thee 3’s in the third to spark the run. The girls just fed off the energy that she provided.”
King City finished 15-8 overall and were seeded #11 in the Central Coast Section Division IV Playoffs. Last night they hosted Marina High School, the champions of the Coastal League who finished with a 7-13 overall record. The winner of the Marina and King City game will play at #6 seed Terra Nova (16-9) tomorrow night.
