KING CITY — King City High School’s baseball program hosted its annual awards banquet on May 29, celebrating the accomplishments of its players and coaching staff following another successful season.

The evening recognized the team’s graduating seniors, individual award winners and All-League selections while providing an opportunity for players, families and coaches to reflect on the season.

The Mustang baseball program honored its senior class for the dedication, leadership and commitment to King City baseball. Efforts by these seniors and the underclassmen led the Mustangs to the co-championship of the Pacific Coast Athletic League’s Cypress Division.

Sophomore Jacoby Chavez was one of the league’s most dangerous offensive players, and played a major role in the Mustang lineup throughout the season. Chavez was a first-team All-League player and was the Cypress Division’s Offensive Player of the Year and was the Mustang Player of the Year.

Senior Joel Pina excelled both on the mound and at the plate, earning recognition from league coaches and King City’s coaching staff for his all-around play. Pina was the first-team All-League, the Cypress Pitcher of the Year and the King City Coaches Award winner.

Senior Joaquin Sabala anchored the Mustang pitching staff and consistently delivered quality performances throughout the season. Sarabia was a first-team All-league and was the King City Pitcher of the Year.

Senior Dylan Conatser’s leadership, work ethic and contributions both on and off the field earned him the King City baseball Most Valuable Player Award. Conatser was a second-team All-League player.

Freshman RJ Ayon made an immediate impact during his first varsity season and established himself as one of the program’s rising stars. Ayon was a second-team All-League player and was presented with the King City Rookie of the Year Award.

Senior Axel Chavez-Torres was recognized for exemplifying sportsmanship, character and respect throughout the season. For his efforts, Chavez-Torres was selected as the Richard Chamberlin All-Sportmanship Award recipient.

The King City coaching staff thanked all the players, families, supporters and community members who contributed to another memorable season.
