KING CITY — King City hosted the first Freedom Gala with Fort Hunter Liggett last Saturday to celebrate the U.S. Army’s 242nd birthday and raise money for military families and the city’s Comprehensive Plan to End Youth Violence.
Nearly 200 members of the military and community attended the event, which raised more than $10,000.
The dinner, held at the fairgrounds, featured a silent auction and live music from the Monterey County Pops brass quintet.
Suzanne Krause was the master of ceremonies, with speeches by Mayor Mike LeBarre and Fort Hunter Liggett Commander Col. Jan C. Norris. The Soledad Navy JROTC provided the Color Guard for the evening.
