KING CITY — Southern Monterey County Foundation (SMCF), an affiliate fund of the Community Foundation for Monterey County (CFMC), awarded $27,500 to six nonprofit organizations in November, topping $307,000 in cumulative grants to support programs serving South Monterey County.

The SMCF was founded in 2014 to improve the quality of life in King City and points south. It offers a platform for local residents and businesses to unite their philanthropic efforts and build stronger communities.

“Governed by a dedicated Advisory Council of residents who are deeply rooted in the area, the SMCF thrives on an understanding of community needs and a rich tradition of neighbors supporting neighbors,” according to the Foundation.

Advisory Council members set grantmaking priorities, provide oversight and raise vital funds that directly benefit organizations working to enhance the quality of life throughout South Monterey County.

This year’s grantmaking was supported in part by Chevron. Following are the Southern Monterey County Foundation 2025 grant recipients:

  • First Tee of Monterey County, for character-building programming to 5,000 youth across five districts;
  • Greenfield Community Science Workshop, for after-school mobile STEM programming for youth;
  • King City Boxing Club, for providing positive activities for youth in King City;
  • O’Neill Sea Odyssey, for hands-on ocean stewardship and educational experiences;
  • Read to Me Project, for early literacy in grades 4-5 classrooms in the King City Union School District; and
  • Sol Treasures, for film making classes for youth inspiring curiosity and confidence.

More than 10 years strong, the SMCF is also continuing to grow with its “Campaign for the Future.” The goal is to build an endowment of $2 million, which will provide a continuing source of grants for groups providing care and support to the South Monterey County communities.

“At $2 million, the SMCF will be able to provide annually for generations to come,” stated the Foundation.

Mary Orradre, founding SMCF donor and Advisory Council member, added, “Join us in supporting the SMCF and make a difference right here where we live and work.”

The SMCF continues to be a vital force in fostering community well-being, empowering local organizations and creating lasting positive change. To learn about the SMCF or contribute, visit cfmco.org/SMCF.
