SAN ARDO — San Ardo Elementary School received a $2,500 literacy grant from VSP Vision on Aug. 19 to help expand student access to books and support reading success.

The grant, provided in partnership with the Kendra Scott Foundation, builds on a VSP Eyes of Hope mobile clinic held at the school earlier this year. During the clinic, 54 students received free eye exams and glasses.

The literacy grant is intended to complement that vision care by providing students with greater access to books and other reading resources.

“At San Ardo Elementary, we know that strong readers become strong learners, and access to books plays a critical role in that journey,” said Catherine Reimer, superintendent and principal of the San Ardo Union Elementary School District.

Reimer said the school is grateful for the investment from VSP Vision and the Kendra Scott Foundation. She added that the literacy grant, combined with the vision care, is “helping remove barriers and create more opportunities” for students to “learn, grow and succeed.”

VSP Vision Community Engagement Manager Clark Jorgensen said the company believes children should have the opportunity to see clearly and read confidently.

“Earlier this year, students received access to the vision care they needed through VSP Eyes of Hope, and today’s literacy grant builds on that impact by helping put more books into their hands,” Jorgensen said.

The partnership reflects the connection between access to vision care and educational resources, with the organizations aiming to support students both in the classroom and beyond.

“Together with the Kendra Scott Foundation, we’re proud to support the resources and opportunities that help students see clearly and succeed in school and beyond,” Jorgensen said.
