KING CITY — Some of the best cowboys and cowgirls from California are heading to South County this Saturday for the first-ever Salinas Valley Wine Country Rodeo.

The inaugural event, produced by Lone Oak Western Productions LLC, brings the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association back to King City for a night of wild bronc riding inside the Rava Equestrian Arena at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, 625 Division St.

Wine tasting will kick off the Feb. 23 event beginning at 5 p.m., featuring local wines from the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association. The rodeo will follow at 6:30 p.m., with live music and dancing immediately after.

In addition to a matchup of more than 20 bucking horse riders and 20 bull riders against Empire Rodeo stock, the internationally acclaimed ProRodeo entertainer and clown, Ronald Burton, will bring thrills and laughs to the Salinas Valley Wine Country Rodeo.
