Over the holiday weekend, many spook-tacular activities to celebrate Day of the Dead and Halloween returned to the Salinas Valley, with thousands in attendance. Here is a look at some of the events that took place this year.

Illuminated Procession

Community members dressed up to participate in King City’s annual Illuminated Procession, a lighted parade celebrating the Mexican heritage tradition of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), on Oct. 29.

The procession traveled along Broadway Street to the local open-air market La Cocina, which presented the event and hosted an after party with food, music, dance and performances.

Trunk or Treat

More than 1,000 trick-or-treaters stopped by King City Recreation Department’s fourth annual Trunk or Treat on Oct. 31 at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds.

The family-friendly event featured businesses and organizations decorating the trunks of their cars for Halloween and passing out candy to local youth.
