KING CITY — South Monterey County Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees has appointed Tim Vanoli as interim superintendent effective immediately, following the resignation of Superintendent Jordan Mulder.
Mulder, who had agreed to serve as superintendent for a three-year term beginning in February, resigned from the position on July 27. He will, however, remain with the school district as the director of special education, which he formerly held in 2018 before filling in as interim superintendent in May 2021.
“His stepping down was amicable,” said Board President David Gaboni about Mulder’s departure. He added, “The School Board will be going through the process of hiring a new superintendent.”
During its regular meeting last Wednesday, the Board unanimously agreed to appoint Vanoli as interim superintendent beginning July 28 and continuing for about 10 weeks, through the start of the 2022-23 school year. Vanoli previously served as superintendent of Soledad Unified School District for three and a half years until his retirement at the end of 2020.
“I want to thank Dr. Mulder for his work in the last couple of weeks of putting this together, and I want to thank the Board for your confidence in me,” Vanoli said at the meeting. “I look forward to working with you closely over the next 10 weeks, and I’m looking forward to meeting people and getting schools open.”
Per the employment agreement, Vanoli will be paid at the per diem rate of $995 per full day worked and receive a monthly $100 cell phone allowance, along with other benefits. His contract ends Oct. 12, or earlier if the district hires a permanent superintendent before then.
South Monterey County Joint Union High School District includes both King City and Greenfield high schools, as well as Portola-Butler Continuation High School and Pinnacle Coastal Valley High School.
