SALINAS VALLEY — Soledad Police Department has arrested 33-year-old Rutilio Caliahua Quiahua, a King City resident, on multiple charges related to sexual offenses involving minors under the age of 16.
The arrest, announced April 29, follows an extensive investigation in which Soledad Police detectives identified at least five juvenile victims whom the suspect contacted through social media to initiate inappropriate sexual relationships.
An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect, and with the support of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Quiahua was apprehended while re-entering California at the border. Detectives coordinated with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and extradited him back to Monterey County, where he was booked into jail on numerous felony charges related to child sexual abuse. His bail was set at $900,000.
Soledad Police Department’s Victim Advocate is currently providing support services and resources to the victims and their families.
Detectives believe the suspect may have specifically targeted individuals within the Oaxacan community.
“Soledad Police Department urges anyone who may have had contact with Rutilio Calihua Quiahua, or may know someone who did, to come forward,” police said. “He may have used the alias Javier Hernandez, Javier Martinez, Jaime Hernandez, Jaime Martinez and made contact through social media or in person.”
