SOLEDAD — A Monterey Superior Court Judge last week sentenced Luis Plaza, 27, of Soledad, to 16 months in state prison for false imprisonment, announced Monterey County District Attorney Dean D. Flippo.

On Jan. 18, Plaza walked by Jane Doe, who was an acquaintance, and pushed her against a wall. He placed his hands on either side of her body to prevent her from moving. Doe asked him multiple times to let her go, but he refused to release her and instead ordered her to stay quiet and not make a scene.

Plaza then grabbed Doe by the waist and forced her into a nearby laundry room, where he attempted to assault her. Witnesses heard Doe screaming for help and called 911. Officers arrived within moments, arrested Plaza and found an illegal “butterfly” style knife in his pants pocket.

The case was investigated by King City Police Officer Joshue Partida.
