SALINAS VALLEY — King City is 5-2 in the Mission Division as they went .500 for the week with a tough 10-0 no-hit loss to host Alisal, then battled to an 8-6 win at home against Pacific Grove.

At Alisal, the Trojans took a commanding 9-0 lead in the first innings against the visiting Mustangs.

In last Thursday’s victory over the Pacific Grove Breakers, King City held a 6-1 lead until the visitors came back to cut the lead to 6-5. The Mustangs scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Amity Hearne led the King City hitters with three hits and had two RBIs. Crystal Paramo had a basehit and two RBIs. Alizah Carrillo was the winning pitcher and allowed six runs while striking out six batters.

King City played against South Monterey County rival Gonzales on Tuesday at home and is playing a non-league contest with Pioneer High School on Thursday in San Jose.

The Soledad High softball team was unable to recover from a six-run deficit in the 16-5 setback to the visiting Carmel Padres last Tuesday on the Aztec playing fields.

The Padres outhit the Aztecs 17 to 10 in the Mission Division contest. Kassandra Hernandez hit two doubles and had two runs batted in for Soledad, and Arlette Mosqueda added two hits of her own.

Last Thursday Soledad smashed 22 hits to beat the host North Monterey Condors 14-11. Sophia Gonzalez had four hits, including a homerun, a triple and a double. Aubrey Esparza had four hits with a double and a triple.

Hernandez finished with two hits and Mosqueda had three hits, including a homerun and three RBIs. Delylah Ocampo was the winning pitcher and had four strikeouts.

The Aztecs’ only match this week is a home game against Rancho San Juan. Soledad is 3-4 in the Mission Division and 6-5 overall.

Gonzales lost at home last Monday by an 11-8 score to the North Monterey County Condors. The visitors outhit the Spartans 13 to 10.

Angelina Navarro led Gonzales with three hits, including a double and a triple. Karisma Cabada had a pair of hits including a double, and Alizah Garcia added a double of her own.

Last Wednesday Gonzales defeated the visiting Pajaro Valley Grizzlies by a 14-4 tally. The Spartans held a 6-1 lead but the Grizzlies cut the score to 6-4 in the top of the second. A five-run made the score 11-4 and Gonzales put the game out of reach with three runs in the bottom of the third.

Maryanne Camarena was the winning pitcher and allowed seven hits. Cherish Yebra had three hits, including a double, and finished with three RBIs. Camarena added one hit that produced three RBIs.

On April 11, Gonzales downed the host Marina Mariners, 11-3. Garcia had two hits with a double and a triple, and Yebra finished with two hits.

The Spartans are 3-1 in the Cypress Division and 3-7 overall. Gonzales hosted Anzar on Monday, played at King City on Tuesday and play at Anzar on Wednesday.

The Greenfield Bruins are a perfect 4-0 in the Cypress Division and now have a 6-10 overall record.

On April 9, Greenfield shut out Santa Catalina 15-0. The Bruins produced 10 hits, while pitcher Chloe Zavala threw a two-hitter and struck out nine hitters.

Isabella Figueroa had two hits with four RBIs with her two doubles. Aniah Helm had a triple and three RBIs, Yara Hernandez hit a double and Ashley Zavala had a triple.

Last Friday Greenfield won a home game 14-2 to St. Francis of Watsonville. The Bruins secured the win with an eight-run third inning.

Nathalie Soto hit a double and a triple, while Hernandez and Krystal Nunez each hit doubles. Zavala earned the pitching win, allowing just one hit.

Last Saturday, the Bruins lost to North High, Alisal and host Watsonville at the Watsonville Tournament.

Next, Greenfield will host Seaside on Wednesday for its only game of the week.
