SALINAS VALLEY — With the weather finally clearing up, the high school softball teams in South Monterey County were able to make up some postponed games.

Soledad Aztecs

Don’t look now, but the Soledad Aztec girls are 3-0 in the Cypress Division and have a chance to capture their first league title in the school’s history.

So far, the Lady Aztecs have won their three league games by more than 10 runs a game. They have already beaten the other team that is also contending for the league title, Monte Vista Christian.

Soledad will travel to Seaside on Wednesday.

King City Mustangs

After winning three of their previous four games, the King City Mustang girls dropped two out of three games last week.

Coming off their close victory against the Gonzales Spartans, the Lady Mustangs had a match-up with the Pacific Grove Breakers, who are in first place in the Mission Division. Unfortunately, King City could not come up with a victory, falling 9-4 and suffering their first loss in league play.

Looking to make up some games, the Lady Mustangs were set to play a doubleheader at North Monterey County High School.

In the first game, they played the host, the NMC Condors. The Condors, who are in the Gabilan Division, gave the Lady Mustangs their second straight loss, 5-1.

Looking to snap a two-game losing streak, King City played their final game of the day against the Alisal Eagles. The Mustangs were able to blank the Eagles and score a season-high 18 runs, snapping their two-game winning streak.

The Lady Mustangs were in action again on Monday against Monterey.

Greenfield Bruins

The Greenfield Bruin girls were probably placed in too high of a division since they are going through a rebuild. They are currently 0-3 in the Mission Division.

In their last game, the Lady Bruins were shut out 9-0 against their South County rival, the Gonzales Spartans.

The Lady Bruins will next play on Wednesday against King City.

Gonzales Spartans

The Gonzales Spartan girls have started 1-3 in the Mission Division, and will need a few more wins if they are going to make a push for the playoffs.

In their last game, the Lady Spartans hosted the Greenfield Bruins. If they were going to get back on track, Gonzales would need all-league pitcher Alex Guerrero to lead them.

Guerrero had herself a game with 16 strikeouts in Gonzales’ 9-0 win.

The Lady Spartans will host St. Francis on Friday.
