KING CITY — Eric and Kim Schmidt of Pine Canyon were honored Thursday evening for the volunteer work they have done to beautify and promote the Salinas Valley Fair in King City.

The couple were presented with a Blue Ribbon Award from the Western Fairs Association on behalf of the local fair.

The award was presented by Fair CEO Lauren Hamilton and Board President Frank Lopez at a recognition dinner honoring the Salinas Valley Fair’s volunteers.

Kim Schmidt was the building supervisor for the floral division of this year’s fair in May. She and Eric spent countless hours encouraging participation by adults and young people that culminated in one of the best floral displays at the fair.

In addition, they have been instrumental in supplying ideas for landscaping the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City.

Their efforts are evident in the exterior of the photo building, the floral building, the front of the Orradre building and the Division Street entrance to the fairgrounds.

The June 20 event was held in the recently remodeled Expo Building at the fairgrounds, which was recently dedicated to the memory of Nate Holaday.

Members of the Salinas Valley Fair Board prepared and served the meal for the event.
