BUS CHANGES
MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) has announced that, effective immediately, standees will no longer be allowed on any routes along Highway 101 between Salinas and South Monterey County. Once a bus reaches full seating capacity, additional passengers cannot be accommodated. This decision aims to enhance safety for all travelers. To manage overflow, standby buses will be strategically positioned in South County and Salinas for quick deployment. “We appreciate your patience during this time and encourage you to stay tuned for updates,” stated MST.
LISTENING SESSION
SAN LUCAS — Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez and his District 3 office will be hosting a community listening session on Wednesday, Oct. 16, in San Lucas. The session will take place at 6 p.m. at San Ardo Elementary, 62428 Center St., in San Ardo. Residents are invited to share their thoughts and concerns about the community and county government.
CLEANUP DAY
GONZALES — City of Gonzales and other organizations have planned a Reuse, Recycle and Cleanup Day on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until boxes are full) at Fairview Middle School, 401 Fourth St. Gonzales residents can dispose of such items as general garbage, electronics, TVs, computers, metal appliances and metal and steel items, including refrigerators and freezers, for free. No furniture or yard waste will be accepted. In addition, there will be a special materials collection for antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint. There will also be a free compost giveaway at the cleanup event. Residents can bring a shovel, bags and containers to take some home for their garden. BONUS BRIEF: STEM EVENT
SALINAS — Monterey County 4-H Leaders Council’s annual STEM event, hosted by Buena Vista 4-H Club, is set for Saturday, Oct. 19, in Salinas. The event will focus on a Robotics Building Challenge in partnership with the FAB LAB. Enrolled 4-H members ages 11 and up will participate in hands-on activities, including building Sumo Robots with Lego SPIKE Prime kits, piloting combat robots in a competitive arena and programming robotic rovers for a simulated exoplanet survey.
