VETERAN BBQ
KING CITY — King City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6747 will host a drive-thru Veterans Day barbecue on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the VFW, 599 Bitterwater Road. The meal includes tri-tip, beans, salad and roll. Tickets are available in advance at the King City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture office, 200 Broadway St., or at the door.
POSTER CONTEST
KING CITY — Mee Memorial Healthcare System has launched a poster contest that is open to all South Monterey County public and private students, from kindergarten to 12th grade. Poster submissions should reflect the 2021 National Rural Health Day theme, “Celebrate the Power of Rural.” Prizes will be awarded to individuals, as well as to classrooms, for first, second and third places. Winners will be announced on Rural Health Day, Nov. 18. Entries will be accepted through Friday, Nov. 12. RECYCLE EVENT
GONZALES — City of Gonzales and other organizations have planned a Reuse, Recycle and Cleanup Day on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Fairview Middle School, 401 Fourth St. Local residents (coupon required) can dispose of such items as general garbage, clothing donations, electronics, TVs, computers, metal appliances and metal and steel items, including refrigerators and freezers, for free. No yard waste will be accepted. In addition, there will be a special materials collection for antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint.
