TROOP DONATIONS

KING CITY — Southern Monterey County Republican Women Federated will be collecting items to be sent to servicemen and women serving overseas on June 4. Anyone who would like to participate in this ongoing project can drop off items for the troops at the Rustler/Tribune newspaper office, 522-B Broadway St. in King City, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or the King City Library, 402 Broadway St., during regular hours. SMCRWF has partnered with Operation: Care and Comfort, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization. Go to occ-usa.org to find a “wish list” of requested items and more information about Operation: Care and Comfort. A list of desired items for the troop boxes is also available at the newspaper office and the library. Money donations can be cash, check or money order made payable to Operation: Care and Comfort. For more information on this outreach project, call Kathy Imamura at 408-802-4437.

TRAINING SEASON

JOLON — The peak training season at Fort Hunter Liggett will start mid-May and run through the end of June. Expect traffic delays and entry onto the installations, and increased law enforcement in the area. The Army Reserve is conducting its annual large-scale Combat Support Training Exercise. Increased military and contractor traffic is anticipated on Jolon Road, in addition to increased aircraft traffic and noise from training activities. Also, the public is asked to not go off the paved roads while traveling through Fort Hunter Liggett to get to Los Padres National Forest or Mission San Antonio de Padua. “DO NOT use GPS to navigate, as it often does not provide accurate directions to your destination,” stated FHL. “There has been an uptick of people getting lost and trespassers in recent months wandering off-road onto training areas, which are marked ‘FEDERAL PROPERTY’ and ‘LIVE FIRE TRAINING – DO NOT ENTER.’”
