SALINAS — Two board-certified physicians specializing in radiation oncology and family medicine are taking part in the latest Ask the Experts virtual events hosted by Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System. The free virtual events on Wednesday, June 30, will focus on men’s health and prostate cancer. The Spanish-language presentation takes place at 2 p.m., and the English-language presentation is at 3:30 p.m. via the hospital’s Facebook page.


SALINAS — Read to Me Project (RtMP) has announced the promotion of Kirstin van Gend to program director of the nonprofit organization, which helps children in low-literate families to achieve kindergarten readiness. Van Gend was hired as the RtMP program manager in May 2019 and begins her new role on July 1. Founded in 2011, the prevention-based program has a large presence in South Monterey County schools and is an active collaborator with Greenfield’s Door to Hope and Parents as Teachers programs.
