BRUSH FIRE

KING CITY — A brush fire started in the Salinas River bed off Highway 101 and Jolon Road in King City at about 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 27. As of Monday morning, the fire burned 25 acres and is 50% contained. Forward progress has been stopped, according to reports. Firefighters from Greenfield, Gonzales, Fort Hunter Liggett and Camp Roberts assisted Cal Fire with the blaze.


FREE PARKS

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Supervisors approved rescinding of charging entry fees for county parks, which goes into effect July 1. The parks without entry fees are San Lorenzo Park, Royal Oaks Park, Jacks Peak Park and Toro Park. Park entry fees will remain in effect for resort and recreation areas of Lake Nacimiento, North Shore Lake San Antonio, including Los Robles equestrian center, South Shore Lake San Antonio and Laguna Seca’s recreational area. Fees for camping, picnic areas and facilities will still apply at county parks.


ASTHMA CAMP

SALINAS — Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System has announced that the 36th annual Asthma Camp is set for July 19-23 at Toro Park School, 22500 Portola Drive, in Salinas, with pre- and post-camp childcare available. As the only summer camp in Monterey County solely designed to educate children about the disease, Asthma Camp offers a chance for children ages 6 to 12 with mild to severe asthma to enjoy outdoor activities in a safe and medically supervised environment.
