BARBECUE PLANS

PINE CANYON — King City and Pine Canyon residents who purchased tickets to the 2020 tri-tip barbecue fundraiser for the Pine Canyon Fire Department have not been left hanging. The department announced Feb. 2 that its upcoming barbecue fundraiser will take place March 21 this year from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. They also announced those who bought 2020 tickets, which were for an event canceled due to Covid-19, will have them honored at this year’s event. The location of the barbecue will be the King City VFW Hall, 559 Bitterwater Road.


ASK THE EXPERTS

SALINAS — Four cardiac physicians from Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) and the hospital’s executive chef are taking part in a series of free live virtual Ask the Experts events focusing on heart health and non-invasive procedures. The Feb. 17 presentation at 4 p.m. via the SVMHS Facebook page will focus on cooking heart healthy meals. The Feb. 24 presentation at noon via the SVMHS website will focus on the TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) procedure. Another presentation was held Feb. 12 about the Watchman, an FDA-approved cardiac implant, and can be viewed on the SVMHS Facebook page, as well.


SALVATION SHUTDOWN

SOLEDAD — Salvation Army closed its Soledad office at the end of January due to complications with affording the building, as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Cindy Avelino, who has served as the service center coordinator, made the announcement.
