BRIDGE WORK CONTINUES

MONTEREY COUNTY — A bridge improvement project continued Sunday, Aug. 4, resulting in intermittent overnight one-way reversing traffic control and ramp closures at multiple locations in Monterey County. Travelers will encounter intermittent traffic control and ramp closures Sunday through Thursday nights, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. at the following bridge locations on Highway 101: East Garrison Overcrossing, Nacimiento River and Jolon Road Undercrossing. No overnight work will take place on Friday or Saturday nights. This project is expected to be complete in spring 2025. This work is part of a bridge improvement project at 19 bridge locations in Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties. Work includes bridge assessments, deck repairs/resurfacing and installing/replacing joint seals.


RIVER ROAD BRIDGE MEETING

GONZALES — Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez and the County of Monterey Public Works, Facilities and Parks team will discuss the proposed new Gonzales River Road Bridge project during a special meeting Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. at Pessagno Winery, 1645 River Road, in Gonzales. During the meeting, they will describe the project, discuss its challenges, benefits and implementation, as well as answer any questions.


FILING PERIOD ENDS

MONTEREY COUNTY — Friday, Aug. 9, marks the end of the candidate filing period for the Nov. 5 General Election. Candidate forms will be available only during the official filing period and must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday. Official nomination documents are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Monterey County Elections Department, 1441 Schilling Place – North Building, in Salinas. Candidates are encouraged to schedule an appointment. Candidates for municipal offices should contact the city clerk for more information about filing requirements and locations. BONUS BRIEF: CASA OFFICE HOURS

GREENFIELD — CASA of Monterey County currently holds office hours from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every second Friday of the month at Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez’s Third District office inside the Greenfield Civic Center, 599 El Camino Real, in Greenfield. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are community volunteers trained to advocate for the best interest of children in the foster care system and juvenile justice system.
