Melvin (Butch) James Palmer, Jr. 72, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 following a long illness.
A native of King City, California, he was born July 13, 1946 to James and Maxine Palmer, and lived most of his life on the Rist Ranch in Lonoak and in King City before moving to Oklahoma. He is the Grandson of George W. Rist, Sr.
His first love was ranching. Along with working on the family ranch, he went into the cattle business with his Dad raising Black Angus cattle. He was a member of the Peachtree 4-H Club raising sheep, swine and of course Black Angus, winning many awards.
He was a member of the Monterey County Cattlemen’s Association. In the later years, gardening was his love. He grew many types of vegetables and from this luscious garden and his generosity to give back, he was able to give to his Church, family and friends. Today, I am sure he is walking with God through the garden and it is a little greener.
Melvin is survived by his wife Tammy of the family home, two sons, David Palmer of Pennsylvania, James Palmer (Christine) of Ketchikan, Alaska and one daughter Candace Palmer of Shawnee, Oklahoma.Two sisters, Pamela McCrumb of Salinas, and Linda Simpson (Ron) of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Various nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, James and Maxine Palmer.
