SOLEDAD — Two fights among inmates recently broke out at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad.

Six inmates started the fight in Facility C on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, and Correctional officers used pepper spray to quell the incident. According to CTF, there were no injuries and no inmate-made weapons were recovered.

The next day, Feb. 15, about 25 inmates started fighting in the prison yard and officers used pepper spray from 40mm launchers to stop it. One warning shot was fired from a state-issued mini rifle.

Scratches and abrasions were found on one inmate, but no other injuries resulted from the fight, CTF said.

Videos of the fights — captured by an inmate with a cell phone looking out into the prison yard — began circulating online afterward. The cell phone is suspected of being smuggled in, as the mobile devices are not allowed inside the facility.

According to Public Information Officer Roland Ramon, Facility C is on a modified program, meaning that inmate movement and programs are limited in response to an incident or unusual occurrence.
