KING CITY — The King City Aquatic Center Fence Renovation Project began Tuesday, with work focused on replacing and improving the facility’s perimeter fencing.
King City Council approved the project in April and awarded the contract to Big Wakoo Fencing of Atascadero.
The project is funded through $400,000 in state funding secured in 2023 through the office of state Sen. Anna Caballero to improve city recreation facilities. Other projects supported by the funding include renovations to the King City tennis courts in 2024 and replacement of the pool chlorinator system in 2026.
Originally built in 1941, the Aquatic Center has undergone several modifications and improvements over the years. The new fencing will meet current regulations and expand a portion of the facility to improve control and security around the picnic area adjacent to the north-side facility entrance.
According to Recreation Manager Andrea Wasson, the project is expected to be completed within four weeks.
The King City Pools will remain open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for regular programming during the renovation.
