John Wayne Brewen passed away on Aug. 2, 2019 in King City, Calif., at the age of 75.

Brewen was born on March 31, 1944 in Paso Robles, Calif., to Chet & Margaret Brewen. He graduated from Paso Robles High School. He attended Cal Poly for a short time. He married Diann Houghton on July 24, 1965. He spent years working on various ranches and eventually found his true passion building corrals and BBQ pits. The couple welcomed three children into their home. His children remember him as a kind and patient father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

John was accomplished welder, corral builder, and cowboy. He was a witty individual who loved making people smile and laugh with his business card game and tricks. John was passionate about working in his shop, playing cards, attending calf brandings, and watching his children and grandchildren compete in rodeos. He was a member of the Silver Kings & Queens.

John Brewen is survived by his children, Jackie (John) Middagh, Beverly “Boo” Hurley (Andrew Johnson), and J.W. (Candace) Brewen; siblings Adranna Hansen, Janice Kay Mumford, Clifford (Elethea) Brewen, Martha Jean (Phil) Balmat; sister-in-law Sheila Brewen; grandchildren Kourtnie, Shawna, Jamee, and Brewen Middagh, Emily, Sarah, and Kate Brewen; great-grandchildren Dylan Middagh and Justin Nash; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Chet Brewen & Margaret Brewen-Hansen, brother, Joe Brewen, brother-in-law, Bob Hansen, nephew, Bobby Hansen, ex-wife Diann Houghton Brewen Shaw, and longtime friend Lu Harbin.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10:30am, Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019 at Tully Hall in Bitterwater. Bill Rist will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John’s life.
