MONTEREY COUNTY — Residents and visitors now have an easier way to explore local destinations thanks to new bicycle and pedestrian wayfinding signs installed by the Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC).
To promote the system, TAMC launched a social media campaign March 9 that continues through May 29, encouraging people to walk, bike and discover iconic community destinations.
The campaign highlights the new signage, builds long-term recognition of the wayfinding system, educates the public on how to use it effectively and showcases featured routes and landmarks. Community members can follow updates on Instagram and Facebook @tamcmonterey, and share their favorite routes by tagging @tamcmonterey and using the hashtag #FindYourWayMRY.
Installed signs help navigate historic downtowns, coastal trails, parks, schools and popular attractions without relying on a car. They display distances and travel times by foot or bike, directional arrows, route confirmation markers and key destinations, such as transit centers and waterfronts.
By providing clear navigation, the system makes everyday trips more accessible for people of all ages and abilities.

“This new wayfinding system makes it easier than ever for people to explore Monterey County’s incredible destinations without relying on a car,” said Todd Muck, executive director of the Transportation Agency for Monterey County. “Whether you’re a long-time resident or a first-time visitor, these signs help you find your way to parks, schools, town centers and waterfronts all while encouraging healthier, more active ways of getting around.”
Each month of the campaign will focus on a unique goal. March highlights sign promotion to raise awareness, April emphasizes teaching residents how to read and use the signs effectively, and May encourages action by showcasing featured routes, landmarks and everyday destinations to inspire more walking and biking. Posts will include short videos and a dedicated landing page to support long-term recognition of the signs and promote active transportation throughout Monterey County.
Campaign organizers also note the initiative supports regional tourism and economic vitality by helping visitors navigate local communities confidently. TAMC is exploring coordination with regional tourism partners to amplify the campaign’s reach and ensure more people can experience the county’s destinations safely and conveniently.
“We’re excited to highlight these routes and invite the community to discover just how connected our region truly is,” Muck said.
By making it easier to explore communities without a car, TAMC aims to meet the growing demand for walkable and bike-friendly infrastructure while promoting healthier, more active lifestyles across Monterey County.
