KING CITY — Andy Barrios his a buzzer beater and Cedric Perez took charge in overtime as the King City Mustang basketball team defeated the visiting North Salinas Vikings on Friday 75-69.

Perez led King City with 29 points, including seven 3-point baskets.

“Andy’s shot in regulation to tie the game shifted the momentum to our side,” said King City head coach Jesus Ramirez. “This game was just the opposite of our game with Alvarez where we led most of the game and then were outscored the rest of the game. We trailed against North Salinas and then with a few seconds left Andy (Barrios), hit a shot from just across half court to tie the game. In overtime Cedric Perez hit a pair of big shots in overtime to get us the win.”

Barrios finished the game with 18 points and Andres Arellano just missed double figures with nine points, and Angel Trujillo added seven points.

On Dec. 5 the Mustangs were beaten 69-61 by the Everett Alvarez in their first loss of the season. King City led 35-26 at halftime but were unscored 43-26 in the second half.

“We were up by nine points at the half and were playing pretty well,” said Coach Ramirez. “The game was actually just a one-point difference in the last two minutes and then Alvarez hit a few baskets a pulled away. It was a game we could have won.”

Cedric Perez led King City in scoring with 20 points, including four 3-point baskets.

Andy Barrios contributed with 14 points and Angel Trujillo joined his teammates in double figures in scoring with 10 points and one 3-point basket.

The Mustangs hoped to improve their 3-1 record as they traveled last night to Watsonville to play the St. Francis Sharks.

King City will be off the rest of the week until a game on Dec. 18 at Coalinga.
