KING CITY — After playing just one game the previous week the King City Lady Mustang softball team played a busy schedule with three league games and three games at Saturday’s Watsonville Softball Tournament.

King City began the week with a 13-1 win over the Anzar Hawks last Monday and were led on the mound by winning pitcher Mikayla Davis who had a game-high 11 strikeouts. Megan Flores led the hitters with a double and a single.

The following day the Lady Mustangs beat visiting Trinity 15-3. Kalie Holt, Brooke Tidwell, Ivy Hearne, Megan Flores, and Mikayla Davis hit doubles and Julie Arreola went 3 x 4 at the plate.

Last Thursday the Lady Mustangs were beaten 5-2 by the visiting Greenfield Bruins. Kalie Holt had two hits in the contest and Buddy Camacho made nine defensive put outs at shortstop.

In the first game of the Watsonville Tournament King City lost 10-1 to the King’s Academy of Sunnyvale. Caroline Martinez made three outstanding catches in center field and Buddy Camacho had two hits while pitcher Kalie Holt finished with four strikeouts.

King City was shutout by an 8-0 score in the second game of the tournament against the Seaside Spartans. Megan Flores started at pitcher and had six strikeouts and Mari Cenobio made several good defensive plays at first base.

In the third game of the tournament King City finished in a 6-6 tie with Mercy-Burlingame as the game played to the time limit.

“Paola Garcia had a nice bunt in the third inning to move a runner over,” said King City head coach Joy Flores. “Kalie Holt struckout four batters and we had strong base running by Chelsea Lopez. Mikayla Davis hit a double and single and Mackenzie Hearne made a good throw from right field to second for an out in the top of the seventh.”
