KING CITY — King City’s annual Beautification Week begins this weekend, and residents and businesses are urged to pick a project to beautify the town.
Beautification Week will run from June 18 to 26 under the sponsorship of the King City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture in cooperation with the City of King, King City in Bloom, Waste Management and Salinas Valley Recycles.
It is an effort to improve the appearance of the business district and the entire town.
Beautification Week events include:
- Waste Management Community Recycling Event on Saturday, June 25, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. or until dumpsters are full at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds at 625 Division St. On the same day, the Jolon Road Transfer Station will accept up to three large bulky items per family without charge if they bring a copy of the Waste Management bill.
- Town-wide Litter Clean Up on Saturday, June 25, from 8:30 to 10 a.m., sponsored by King City in Bloom. Volunteers can meet at the Fairgrounds on Division Street to pick up gloves and bags.
- City-wide Yard Sale on Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26. Contact the Chamber at 385-3814 for more information. Yard sale permits are not required on these two days.
Individually, everyone in town is encouraged to think about what they can do to help spruce up their own homes and offices during Beautification Week.
Recommendations include sweeping sidewalks, washing windows, painting buildings and trim, removing gum from sidewalks, mowing and edging lawns weekly, pulling weeds, trimming shrubs, planting flowers, repainting signs and removing handwritten signs.
After that, residents are encourage to make a plan for weekly ongoing cleaning and maintenance.
The idea for Beautification Week started 30 year ago as an effort to improve the town in preparation for the Fourth of July holiday.
