KING CITY — Independence Day celebrations in King City will span two days this year with fireworks, a parade and multiple community events offering food, entertainment and family activities across the city.

Festivities begin Friday, July 3, with a fireworks show hosted by the King City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture in partnership with the City of King City at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds.

“Join us for our fireworks show at the SV Fairgrounds Stampede Arena,” the Chamber said.

The show runs from 9 to 10 p.m. inside the Stampede Arena, located at Division and San Lorenzo streets. Admission is a $1 entrance donation for grandstand seating.

The Chamber partners with the city and is supported by local businesses to help fund the annual display, with donations helping defray event costs.

Parade opens July 4 celebrations

The Independence Day Parade will take place Saturday, July 4, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Second Street and Broadway. The parade will travel down Broadway to San Lorenzo Park.

Organized by the King City Chamber in cooperation with the City and the King City Police Department, the parade will feature a wide range of participants, including floats, tractors, horses, clubs/marching units, fire engines, classic cars and more.

Trophies or ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third place in each entry category.

“Come and celebrate Independence Day with us as you begin your day with our parade,” the Chamber said.

Entry forms are available at the Chamber office, 110 N. Vanderhurst Ave., or by email at kc**************@*************er.com.

Valley Heritage Days returns to park

At San Lorenzo Park, Valley Heritage Days will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, offering free admission and free parking for a full day of family activities, entertainment and local tradition hosted by the Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum.

The event features a classic car show, antique tractor display, live music, community stage performances, food vendors and a variety of hands-on family activities. Additional programming includes folklórico dancers, blacksmith demonstrations and community exhibitors.

Other attractions include an adult dodgeball tournament, kids’ activities, hay rides and museum exhibits highlighting local agricultural history.

A series of homemade competitions will also return, including best homemade pie, tortilla, chili and jam, bringing back what organizers describe as the spirit of earlier Valley Heritage Days events.

The car show will include multiple classes and awards, including a $500 cash prize for Best of Show.

“This relaunch of Valley Heritage Days is about bringing people together again — to relax, connect and enjoy the simple pleasures of summer,” organizers shared. “It’s a nod to Valley Heritage Days of yesterday, where families gathered to celebrate history, agriculture and the joy of being together.”

Donations will be accepted and help support the museum’s mission of preserving and sharing Monterey County’s agricultural and rural heritage.

Young Farmers BBQ tradition continues

Also running Saturday, the King City Young Farmers will host their annual Fourth of July BBQ Fundraiser from noon to 7 p.m. at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds.

The nonprofit organization, active in the community since 1975, supports local youth programs, scholarships and community organizations, including King City and Greenfield FFA, through fundraising and volunteer efforts.

“This event is one of our largest fundraisers of the year and plays an important role in helping us continue giving back to the organizations and communities we serve,” the King City Young Farmers said.

This year’s event includes barbecued rib meals for $25, available for pre-purchase or day-of purchase. Activities include a cornhole tournament, food booths, local vendors, live entertainment and children’s activities, such as bounce houses, face painting and a dunk tank.

Entertainment will feature Juanito Aguilar y Su Grupo Coronado and a local Ballet Folklórico group.

The event has moved from its longtime park location to the fairgrounds due to recent barbecue permitting and timing issues in recent years, according to the organization.

For more information, tickets or vendor inquiries, contact the King City Young Farmers at 831-970-3143.

Organizers across all events encourage residents to bring lawn chairs, gather with family and friends, and spend Independence Day weekend celebrating community traditions throughout King City.
