KING CITY — Families and friends cheered from the stands at War Memorial Stadium on Friday as King City High School’s newest graduates celebrated their last day of school.

With pomp and circumstance, more than 260 seniors graduated this year during the Mustangs’ Class of 2024 commencement ceremony.

Speeches were given by seniors Samantha Roach, class president; Leticia Anastacio, salutatorian; and Michael Ruiz, valedictorian.

The May 31 program also featured senior Israel Santiago Perez, who sang the National Anthem, and the King City High School Military Science Color Guard, which presented the flags.

King City High School Principal Michael Gray gave the commencement welcome address, and Superintendent Caroline Cota performed the conferring of diplomas.

The Class of 2024’s motto states, “Chase your dreams but always know the road that’ll lead you home again,” a quote by Tim McGraw. The class song is “Good Old Days” by Macklemore featuring Kesha.

“I wish somebody would have told me, babe / That some day, these will be the good old days / All the love you won’t forget / And all these reckless nights you won’t regret / ‘Cause someday soon, your whole life’s gonna change / You’ll miss the magic of the good old days,” repeats the song’s chorus.

After taking the Mustang field for the final time that morning, senior Alexa Flores led the traditional turning of tassels, symbolizing the completion of this academic milestone, and the graduates tossed their caps in the air before joining their loved ones to celebrate.
