KING CITY — King City High School students played Slip ’N Slide baseball on the lawn near the Robert Stanton Theater last Wednesday, while trying to stay cool during the region’s severe heatwave.

The afternoon of friendly games was sponsored by the local FFA.

Temperatures reached more than 100 degrees over the past week, triggering the need for cooling centers and other refreshing activities throughout South Monterey County. Many of the cooling centers have been extended through this Thursday.

King City’s cooling center is available upon request today and tomorrow, from 12 to 5 p.m. at either the Recreation Center or City Hall, depending upon the specific time needed. Anyone in need of the center can contact City Hall at 831-385-3281.

This coming weekend is expected to be much cooler, with temperatures forecasted in the upper 80s and low 90s on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
