KING CITY — Xavier Salone won two events and placed second in two others to lead the King City High frosh-soph boys track team to victory at Saturday’s King City Lions’ and Young Farmers’ 73rd Invitational Track Meet. Salone placed first in the triple, first in the 65 hurdles and placed second in the hurdles and second in the 400.

As a team King City scored in 11 events to defeat second place Palma, 117 to 67. In the varsity boys competition King City placed fifth as the Salinas Cowboys ran away with the team title. North Salinas won the varsity girls division and the Lady Mustangs finished fifth.

For his efforts Salone received the King City frosh-soph high point award as he finished with 36 points. Jesus Avalos won the varsity high point award with a second-place finish in the 3200, a third-place finish in the 1600 and a fifth-place finish in the 4×400 relay. Nancy Andrade was the girls high point winner with a second in the high jump, a fifth in the long jump, third in the 4×100 relay and fourth in the 4×400 relay.

Isaiah Guerra of Salinas High was the varsity boys high points award winner, earning first place points in the long jump, triple jump and second in the pole vault. Dante Moor of Salinas High was the girls high point award winner with a first in the high jump, a first in the triple jump and a win in the 100 hurdles.

Pajaro Valley.5.

Team scores for the frosh-soph boys division were: 1. King City 117; 2. Palma 67; 3. Alisal 63; 4. North Monterey County 61.5; 5. Everett Alvarez 42; 6. North Salinas 37; 7. Pacific Grove 30.5; 8. Gonzales 26; 9. Soledad 21; 10. Greenfield 17; 11. Pajaro Valley 9; 12. Watsonville 3; 13. Salinas 2.

King City varsity boys placers were: Christian Olmos, sixth in the 100 meters (11.7) and fifth in the 200 meters (24.1); Jesus Avalos, third in the 1600 (4:37) and second in the 3200 (10:09; Ismael Rocha, fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.6) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (46.0); Isidro Cabrera, sixth in the discus; Michael Hart, third in the high jump (5-4, and fourth in the triple jump (38-9). King City also placed fifth in the 4 x 400 relay in a time of 3:58. Members of the relay team were: Jesus Avalos, Christian Olmos, Roman Munoz, and Ricardo Ruelas.

Lady Mustang placers were: Cali Murillo, fourth in the 300 hurdles (53.2); Cassidy Flores, fifth in the discus (94-8); Nancy Andrade, second in the high jump (4-6), fifth in the long jump (14-6); Jalen Mendez, third in the high jump (4-6), third in the triple jump (30-7). Members of the 4×100 relay team that placed third in 54.0 were: Nancy Andrade, Delaney Carroll, Jalen Mendez, and Kajar Rodgers.

King City frosh-soph placers were: Bryce McEwen, fourth in the 100 (12.1), third in the 200 (24.7); Xavier Salone, second in the 400 (54.0), first in the 65 hurdles (10.6), second in the 300 hurdles (45.0), first in the triple jump (37-5); Miguel Zendejas, third in the 800 (2:08), second in the 1600 (4:40); Jhames Bautista, second in the 65 hurdles (10.7), third in the 300 hurdles (45.4). Members of the second place 4×100 relay team (46.1) were: Dylan Oliveros, Cesar Chavez, Carson Roylance, Bryce McEwen.

Soledad varsity boys placers were: Luis Camarena, fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.3), second in the 300 hurdles (43.5); Daniel Contawe, first in the shot put (49-8), second in the discus (132-110). The Aztec 4×100 relay team placed fifth in 46.1, team members included Miguel Gonzalez, Ulises Camarena, Emanuel Ortega, Daniel Contawe.

Varsity girls placers for Soledad were: Denise Virgen, fifth in the 200 (28.1), Danyelle Landeros, third in the 800 (2:29), Lauryn Orozco, sixth in the 1600 (5:49), third in the 3200 (12:37). The Lady Aztecs placed second in the 4 x 400 relay in a time of 4:31. Team members were: Danyelle Landeros, Theresa Chavez, Denise Virgen, Krystal Villegas. Running on the fourth place 4×100 relay team (55.0) were: Theresa Chavez, Krystal Villegas, Denise Virgen, Gyrallene Degarcia.

Soledad frosh-soph boys placers were: Andrew Palmerin, fourth in the pole vault (8-6), third in the triple jump (33-4). Soledad placed sixth in the 4×100 relay with a time of 50.8. Members of the team were: Salvador Meza, Victor Phillips, Axel Amaro, Josiah Freeman.

Gonzales varsity boys placer was Ulysses Fierros with a sixth place finish in the 400 in a time of 54.5. In the frosh-soph boys division Pablo Villasenor won the shot put in 48-0 and the discus in 115-3. Luis Sainz placed fourth in the high jump (4-10) and fifth in the triple jump (31-4).

Jackie Ramirez placed fourth for the Gonzales girls in the shot put with a best of 29-2 and Bianca Sanchez placed sixth in the long jump with a best of 14-2. The Spartan girls placed fifth in the 4×100 relay in a time of 55.2. Team members were: Alyssa Martinez, Bianca Sanchez, Athena Landeros, and Madisyn Schweitzer.

Placing for the Greenfield varsity boys was Luis Meza with a fourth place finish in the 1600 (4:38), and fifth in the 3200 (10:49). In the frosh-soph boys division Rodrigo Garcia placed first in the 3200 in 10:40 and fifth in the 1600 in 4:45. Kenny Martinez placed sixth in the 65 hurdles in 11.6 and fifth in the long jump with a best of 16-8. Greenfield placed fifth in the 4 x 400 relay in n 4:05 with a team of Andrew Dang, Abraham Perez, Rodrigo Garcia, and Isaac Lopez.
