SAN ARDO — Local oil company Aera Energy made the holidays brighter for three San Ardo families, including 17 children ranging in ages from 2 to 15 who each received clothing as well as a toy.

On Dec. 21, the families received armloads of gifts provided by Aera employees. Jackets, pants, shoes, bikes and helmets, blankets, games, dolls, radio-controlled cars and much more were among the items.

“Our employees and other oilfield workers really opened their hearts to these struggling families,” said Kathy Miller, Aera public affairs coordinator in San Ardo. “When we delivered the gifts, there were tears of joy — on both the giving and receiving end.”

“This is our home too and helping these families is just one of the many ways we strive to strengthen the community. Knowing we made a difference, especially at this time of the year, is heartwarming,” Miller added.

The employees purchased, wrapped and delivered the gifts. The families also received gift cards for groceries as well as warm blankets, towels and other household necessities.

The San Ardo Union Elementary School District recommended the families who could use extra support and Aera was pleased to “adopt” them.

“The school district is so very fortunate to have such a committed and caring partner in the community,” said Catherine Reimer, superintendent/principal of San Ardo Union Elementary School District. “During this time of year, it can be especially difficult for families struggling to make ends meet.

“The donations made by Aera and their family members make a huge impact and are greatly appreciated by the families. Providing warm clothes, blankets, food and holiday gifts makes all the difference in the world for these families,” she added.
