SOUTH COUNTY — The high school football season may have ended almost a month ago but players from South County are still receiving awards and honors. King City and Soledad high schools recently ended the season with awards nights at their respective school sites.

At King City the Mustangs presented special team awards to the following players: Nathaniel Perez, Defensive Player of the Year; Aaron Leonard, Special Teams Player of the Year; Luis Briseno, Mustang Award, Luis Luna, Offensive Player of the Year; and Clay Barbree, Most Valuable Player.

Barbree was selected to the Mission Trail Athletic League first-team as a tight end and first-team as a defensive end and was the Co-Most Valuable Defensive Player of the league. Briseno was All-MTAL as a receiver. Barbree was chosen to the Monterey County Herald’s All-County team as a tight end.

At Soledad team awards were presented to the following offensive players: David Cruz, Offensive Lineman of the Year; Emanuel Ortega, Co-Most Valuable Player; Robbie SantaAna, Co-Most Valuable Player; Diego Fernandez, Coaches Award; Ulises Uribe, Outstanding Kicker; Peter Cortez, Aztec Award, and Angel Olivas, Top Receiver.

Defensive award winners were: Geronimo Serrano, Defensive Lineman of the Year; Victor Ocampo, Defensive Player of the Year; Aaron Rodriguez, Outstanding Defensive Back; Jaycob Olivas, Outstanding Linebacker; Marcus Morales, Newcomer of the Year.

Soledad players on the All-MTAL team on offense were: Ortega, running back; Cruz, tackle; Serrano, center; Angel Olivas, receiver; SantaAna, quarterback.

All-MTAL defensive players were: Serrano, lineman; Rodriguez, defensive back; Uribe, kicker; Ocampo, linebacker. Aztecs chosen All-County were: Ortega, running back; SantaAna, utlilty player; Angel Olivas, receiver; and Jaycob Olivas, linebacker.
