KING CITY — With the high school football season over for the King City Mustangs, the only thing left was to hand out awards to those individuals that had a great year.

This past season King City had their ups and downs, but for fans there is a lot of promise in the future, as they were one of the youngest teams in the county. For the awards this year, the Mustangs had freshmen to seniors win.

Varsity football award recipients include Armando Villasenor, who was a big part of the offensive and defense line, earning this year’s Mustang Award.

Freshmen Carson Tidwell, who was called up after the third game, rushed for 730 yards and was named Offensive Player of the Year. Adrian Garcia followed up on last year’s great season with another, leading the team in receiving yards and tying for the lead in interceptions, which earned him the team’s Most Valuable Player award.

Noah Pacheco, who was the Mustangs’ most dominant lineman, took home the Francisco Sandoval Lineman of the Year award. Rocky Villanueva was able to lead the team with 5.5 sacks, which earned him Defensive Player of the Year.

For the Pacific Coast Athletic League’s Mission South Division awards, Isaac Benavides (LB), Villanueva (DE) and Pacheco (DL) were named to the all-league first team, while Chris Gaytan (LB), Pacheco (OL), Tidwell (RB) and Garcia (WR) made the all-league second team.

Villasenor made the Richard Chamberlin All-Sportsmanship Team, as well.
