KING CITY — After nearly two years of planning and construction, King City in Bloom last week hosted a formal dedication of the new City Hall sign and flower beds in front of the City of King building.

The nonprofit organization completed the beautification project last September as a way to enhance the City Hall walkway entrance for visitors as well as to promote the historical features of the community civic building.

The project, which was funded through community donations, features two raised flower beds full of seasonal plants, one with a wind sculpture and the other with the new sign.

“This King City in Bloom project could not have materialized without the fortitude, dedication and genuine interest of the many important people that portrayed a vital role in the successful fruition of this project,” said Laurie Slaten, chairwoman of King City in Bloom, at the March 26 ceremony.

All Signs and Graphics from Atascadero designed the new City Hall sign, Juan Espinoza constructed the flower beds and King City Public Works Department assisted with the rock and wind sculpture placements. The City Hall Landscape Beautification Project was chaired by Phoebe Cheney.

Slaten also gave thanks to the King City in Bloom Board and participating members for providing “much-needed strength, vim and vigor to get this project done,” in addition to Wes Beebe and City Manager Steve Adams for helping with the landscape project plans.

“King City in Bloom would like to thank all the wonderful donations we received from the community that financially allowed for us to pursue and complete this worthwhile project,” she concluded. “We also hope the community is pleased with our efforts and will enjoy the new City Hall Landscape Beautification Project with all its seasonal plantings for years to come.”
