KING CITY — Families received hands-on safety checks May 31 during a Car Seat Check Event hosted by the Monterey County Health Department and Mee Memorial Healthcare System in King City.
Certified car seat technicians inspected installations, checked for proper fit and reviewed safety recalls. Families were encouraged to bring their child, vehicle and current car seat for evaluation.
Monterey County Sheriff’s Office also participated in the event, providing safety resources and distributing prizes for children through its partnership with Toys for Tots. A sheriff’s deputy assisted with the dismantling of unsafe or recalled car seats to promote child passenger safety.

California Highway Patrol’s King City office also assisted.
Mee Memorial Healthcare System expressed appreciation in a June 1 post.
“Thank you for teaming up with us to put on such an impactful event. Ensuring that families in our community have the knowledge and resources to keep their little ones safe on the road is so important. Thank you to all who organized, contributed and participated,” the healthcare system stated.
Funding for the program was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
