KING CITY — California Water Service (Cal Water) began an important water main replacement project in King City that will keep critical water infrastructure and service in the area safe and reliable.

The upgrade will ensure customers, including Town Square tenants and other downtown residents and businesses, continue to have the water they need for their everyday and emergency needs.

The project, which will take about six weeks to complete, includes the installation of 1,400 feet of new 8-inch PVC water main and 65 individual customer service connections. In addition, crews will replace aging fire hydrants to improve first responders’ access to water.

Installation will take place on Broadway Street, between Vanderhurst Avenue and First Street.

“As essential service workers, our crews are committed to delivering quality, service, and value to our King City customers,” said Marc Bloom, Cal Water’s local manager in King City. “This infrastructure upgrade will enable us to continue to deliver a reliable supply of safe, high-quality water to businesses and government facilities in the area, both now and for years to come, and ensure first responders have the water they need to protect the community in an emergency.”

Crews are working to minimize traffic delays during construction, which is taking place Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing and connect individual customer service connections to the new water main.

Water service will be briefly interrupted as crews connect customer service connections to the main; however, Cal Water will notify residents in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
